Clovis served in the military during the First World War. He was the younger brother of Leo Gavoille, also a veteran of that war.

Clovis and Anna had two children: Beulah I. Gavoille (1923-1976) and Donald Gavoille (b. 1925).

In 1942, Clovis's WWII draft card described him as 5'4", 180 lbs., brown eyes, brown hair, ruddy complexion with a scar on the forehead. He was employed at the Maryland Drydock Co. in Baltimore at the time. Later he would work as a carpenter.
