Reding Putman was born on 20 Apr 1792 in, Union County, South Carolina. He died on 9 Sep 1865 in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas.

Reding was born in South Carolina on April 20, 1792. He was a son of Daniel Putman and Prudence Skelton. He moved with the family to Kentucky, and then Indiana where his dad died in 1816.

He married Stacy Combs and moved to Illinois. He fought in the Black Hawk War, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. His name appears on the Illinois list of Black Hawk War veterans. The Black Hawk War was a brief conflict fought in 1832 between the United States and Native Americans, headed by Black Hawk, a Sauk leader. The war erupted soon after Black Hawk and a group of Sauks, Meskwakis, and Kickapoos known as the "British Band" crossed the Mississippi River into the U.S. State of Illinois in April 1832. Black Hawk's motives were ambiguous, but he was apparently hoping to avoid bloodshed while resettling on land that had been ceded to the United States in a disputed 1804 treaty.

Putman later got ‘Bounty Lands' in Arkansas for his
service; each soldier was entitled to a grant of 80 acres of land. Stacy had died in 1827. He then married a widow, Phebe Marsh (also seen as Marshall) Stelle, in 1829.

Reding Putman and Stacy Combs were married on 7 Jun 1812 in Gibson County, Indiana. Stacy Combs was born about 1795 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. She died on 16 Dec 1827 in, Fulton County, Illinois. Reding Putman and Stacy Combs had the following children:

I. Delilah Putman Rizley was born on 28 Apr 1813 in Gibson County, Indiana. She died in 1841 in, Washington County, Arkansas.

II. George Putman was born on 3 Oct 1814 in Gibson County, Indiana.

III. Anne Elizabeth Putman Farmer was born on 10 Jan 1817 in Gibson County, Indiana. She died after 1890 in, Washington County, Arkansas.

IV. James Daniel Putman was born on 13 Feb 1819 in Butler County, Kentucky.

V. Prudence Putman Willcoxen was born on 22 Sep 1820 in Butler County, Kentucky. She died on 24 Oct 1882 in, Fulton County, Illinois.

VI. Robert Putman was born on 16 Dec 1823 in, Fulton County, Illinois.

VII. Bennett Putman was born on 16 Dec 1825 in, Fulton County, Illinois. He died about 1885 in Springdale, Benton County, Arkansas.

Reding Putman and Phoebe Marsh were married on 21 Feb 1829 in, Fulton County, Illinois. Phoebe Marsh was born on 14 May 1787 in Westfield County, New Jersey. She died on 11 May 1884 in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas. It was orignally thought that she was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas, but the best evidence we have, in 2014, is that she is buried at Baptist Ford. Reding Putman and Phoebe Marsh/Marshall had the following children:
