Walter Rich, with whom he was working, said Blanchard fell on his head and did not move. Sheriff George B. Heath, of Belfast, investigated the accident.
Blanchard, who had worked for various farmers in the area, had lived in Thorndike with his aged mother for four years. He was born at Unity, January 17, 1899, son of the late Alton and Mabel (Alley) Blanchard, and spent most of his life there.
Besides his mother, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mava Maxim, also of Thorndike; two brothers, Wendell of Waldoboro and Everett of Knox; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Quaker Hill Church in Unity with Rev. Shirley Morgan officiating.
