OBITUARY
Raymond 'Ray' W. Ackerman, 78, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at his home in Dodge City. He was born September 5, 1923, at Windthorst, the son of Frank and Clara Fredelake Ackermann. A dodge City resident since 1994, moving from Windthorst, he was a farmer, a fieldman for the ASCS Office, and worked several years at My-D-Han-D Manufacturing, Dodge City. He served in the United States Marine Corps during WW II. He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714, both of dodge City, and a life member of Knights of Columbus Council 2462, Windthorst. He was a past board member of the Spearville and Offerle Coops. On May 9, 1950, he married Mary Eleanor Ring at Wright. She preceded him in death August 31, 2001. Survivors include: four sons, Ed and wife, Toni, Brewster, Larry and wife, Kenna, Spearville, Rod and wife, Kerry, Little River, and Jeff and wife, Kelly, Hays; four daughters, Diane Ackerman and Marcia Farid, both of Wichita, Vicki Evinger and husband, Jerome, and Lynette Hessman and husband, Skyler, all of Dodge City; two sisters, Elizabeth Gerritzen, Great Bend, and Rose Downey, Stratton, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; and five step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Albert, Ed, Mike and Henry "Hank" Ackerman. Funeral Mass was 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dodge City, with Father Ted Stoecklein presiding. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Windthorst, with military graveside rites by A. Company, 70th Engineers, Ft. Riley. Memorials to Hospice of the Prairie or Blessed Care Services, both in care of Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 14th. Ave., dodge City, KS 67801.
