Mary Ellen Beach, of North Adams, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at her son's home in Quincy, Michigan, under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Hillsdale County. She was born on August 3, 1932, in Woodbridge Township, Michigan, the daughter of Karl and Ilo (Merrick) Hersha.
She was preceded in passing by her parents; her loving husband, of 71 years, Jack Beach, whom she married on August 26, 1950; 10 siblings; one granddaughter, Jennifer Beach and one daughter-in-law, Mary Beach.
She is survived by five children, Gary Beach of Jerome, Deborah (Jerry) Miller of Osseo, Mike (Jill) Beach of Quincy, Steve (Julie) Beach of North Adams and Jack, Jr. (Trina) Beach of North Adams; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Adeline May Chase of Cheboygan and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed being a homemaker. In her earlier years, she worked at Ginolfi's Restaurant for 7 years, at Glies for 9 years and at Smith's Flowers for 5 years, but her greatest passion was caring for her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting afghan baby blankets, which she did for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and among other things, her family and friends, always looked forward to her Christmas Cookies. Mary attended the Community Church of North Adams, which was formerly known as North Adams United Methodist Church and she will be greatly missed.
A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Mary Ellen Beach will be held at the Hampton Funeral Home in Hillsdale, on Friday, April 14, 2023, beginning at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Michael Krebill officiating. Interment will take place in the Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, from 4 – 7 p.m., at the funeral home in Hillsdale. They will also receive friends on Friday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
