SPRINGFIELD - Charles A. Hardwick, 72, a resident of Springfield since 1958, died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born July 3, 1935, in Mattoon, the son of Barclay R. and Selma C. Stephens Hardwick. He married Barbara R. Bixby on May 21, 1955. His parents preceded him in death.

Mr. Hardwick retired from SIU as an architectural project coordinator and previously worked for CIPS and as a self-employed contractor.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara R. Hardwick of Springfield; three daughters, Evelyn L. (husband, Ron) Arthur of Indianapolis, Carolyn D. (husband, Greg) Knaak of Troy, Mo., and Catherine J. Hardwick of Springfield; four grandchildren, Brad and Sara Bloemker, Kevin (wife, Kelly) Knaak and Julie (husband, Brice) Williams; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Levi and Braylin; sister, Naomi Ballinger of Windsor; brother, Floyd (wife, Mary) Hardwick of Mattoon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home, with Mark Peters, Dan Wisecup, Jane Estey and Brad Bloemker officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Janesville Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
