Larry Dean Cuslidge, 75, of Indio, CA, passed away on November 7th, 2022 after a long battle with health issues.
Larry was born on July 2, 1947, to Kenneth and Carin Cuslidge in Stockton, CA.
Larry graduated from Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in 1965 and went on to enroll at San Joaquin Delta Jr. College, studying Police Science. While in college, Larry became a seasonal firefighter.
In 1967, Larry joined the United States Marine Corps, a member of "K" 3rd BN 7th Marines, where he wanted to serve his country as the Vietnam War raged. After training on Treasure Island in San Francisco, CA he transferred to Camp Pendleton in San Diego, CA. While there, he got his deployment orders to the Republic of Vietnam. He wrote weekly to his family back home. On Oct. 20th, 1967, he was hit with an explosive device while on patrol. Larry was treated for his wounds and flown home to heal. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1972, Larry decided to become an angel of the Highway, joining the California Highway Patrol. On July 11, 1974, Larry graduated from the California Highway Patrol Academy in Sacramento, CA. He was transferred to the Indio office where he patrolled for 31 years.
In July 1981, Larry became a father to his daughter, Larinda Waldner. She was his only child and truly the love of his life. His greatest joy.
In 2005, Larry retired from the California Highway Patrol as a Sergeant. His time was spent creating wood projects for friends and family, organizing his baseball collection, attending his grandchildren's school and sporting events, tanning in his pool while enjoying a good cigar in the evenings. To say that his family and friends will miss his wit, sense of humor and laughter is an understatement.
Larry was predeceased by his father, Kenneth, his mother, Carin, and his granddaughter, Taylor. He is survived by his daughter Larinda, son-in-law Joe, and his grandchildren Zachary, Jadyn, and Layla, his sister Linda and his younger brother David and their families.
Services will be held at The Garden Fellowship Church in Indio, CA, on November 30th, 2022 at 11 am. Graveside is to follow the service at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City, CA. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cathedral City, California.
