From the obit of his daughter, whose memorial is now linked to him:
.... Urias S. Nye came to California with the family of Capt. Sutter. With him he brought four negro slaves who are buried near his grave in the foothills at Athena, West of Willows. Nye and his brother Emmanuel at one time operated Nye's crossing near Marysville. Emmanuel's partner married Mary Murphy, a member of the Donner party for who Marysville was named.
[His wife was] was Susan Lull, daughter of Dr. Almon Lull, early day physician who named Princeton for his alma mater, Princeton University.
