Eagle River resident William G. "Gil" Brister, 51, died Jan. 5 in Valdez. There was a visitation followed by a funeral at Kehl's Palmer Mortuary, with the Rev. Kendall Fox officiating. Burial was at the Palmer Pioneer Cemetery.

Born Nov. 22, 1941, in Leesville, La., Mr. Brister moved to Alaska in 1972. He had worked all over the United States and overseas, and on the trans- Alaska oil pipeline off and on since 1972. His family said, "He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved Alaska. He was a friendly, outgoing man who knew no strangers. He worked hard all his life to ensure that his family was taken care of. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his little dog, Tiger."

Mr. Brister is survived by his wife, Geraldine of Eagle River; his son and his fiancee, William Brister Jr. and P.J. Plummer; his daughter and son-in- law, Zenda and Tommy Harris; his son, Robert Brister; his grandchildren, Venessa , Leila and Tommy Jr., all of Eagle River, his grandson, Paul of California; his father and stepmother, Edinel and Mabel Brister of Texas; brothers, Gary and Bobby Brister of Dallas; his sister, Karen Hobbs of Dallas; his brother, Skip Jordan of Dallas; his grandfather, Wilmer Johnson of Leesville, La.; and several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.
