SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services celebrating the life of Ray Powell will be held Monday, June 28, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Blanchard, LA. Officiating will be Dr. James Hill assisted by Reverend Dale Sauls. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at New Providence Cemetery, Ringgold, LA.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Rose-Neath's Marshall Street Funeral Home.

Mr. Powell was born September 14, 1916 in Jamestown, LA to Aubie Powell and Bertha McClung Powell and passed away on June 25, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Blanchard. Ray was a person who loved his God, his family, his friends and just life itself. He also loved to till the soil and watch things grow. He was a man who loved to write songs and poetry. If anybody needed a poem, he could write it. He also played the guitar. He never learned music, but played the guitar by ear.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine Thornton Powell; parents Aubie Powell, Sr. and Bertha McClung Powell; sisters, Lurline Posey and Ruby Haynes and brothers Marvin Powell and Elmer Powell.
