ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Gail S. Bartlett, 44, passed away on June 26 in Rochester, N.Y.
She was born on Nov. 1, 1961, in Lisbon Falls, the youngest daughter of Charles and Charlene Bartlett. She graduated from Lisbon High School as salutatorian of her class and received her bachelor's degree from Bates College.
She went to Ohio, where she received her master's degree in English from the University of Ohio and a master's degree in technical writing from Miami University.
She spent most of her career as a technical writer, translating engineering specifications into understandable English.
One of the facets of her personality was that she did not suffer foolish things or people in silence. She was able to get to the point of a topic with wit and brevity. She was honest and forthright about her political views, which supported many liberal causes. She loved to engage in lively political discussions.
She was a talented writer who wrote amusing stories about birthdays and anniversaries and the foibles and good points of the people who made up her family. She loved to travel with her partner, Mike. She and Mike enjoyed doing many things together, going on trips, sampling new foods, enjoying new sights and going to the water park on hot summer days.
Felines were another love of Gail's life. She had a fondness for cats and provided many of them with shelter and food and medication. Any lost cat was lucky to stray onto her property. Wild animals were also the recipient of her care, from the wounded squirrel in her back yard to the injured cardinal found in the road. She supported the Animal Rescue League with her money and talents.
Generous to the end, she requested to have her organs donated so that others may live. "Goodbye, Gail, we love you. You will be missed by many."
She is survived by her parents, Charles and Charlene Bartlett of Lisbon Falls; her brothers, Erik Bartlett of Casco and Brian Bartlett and her sister-in-law Karen of Georgetown and Bath; her sisters, Heather Bartlett of Lisbon and Patrice Mathieu and her brother-in-law Marcel of Bowdoin; her nieces, Erica Bartlett of Portland, BraeAnn Bartlett of Brunswick and Sabine Mary Bartlett of Auburn; her nephews, Jeremiah Bartlett of Auburn, Troy Bartlett and Nathanial Bartlett of Bath; her cousins, Calvin, Robin and Joshua Woodcock of Gray; her loving companion, Mike France of Rochester, N.Y.; and also, her beloved cats
