Edd Spencer (called ‘Ed’ but most likely an older spelling of ‘Eddie’) was born in January 1888 in Glen Cairn, Wolfe County, Kentucky. He was the third child of seven children born to Nicholas Boone ‘Bud’ and Temperance ‘Tempy’ Collier Spencer. Presumably, he was educated in the local Kentucky school system for a few years as his other siblings were and could read and write. Edd was raised on his parents farm and most likely had chores and helped on the farm the same as other farm children growing up.

We don’t know a lot about Edd’s personality. His life was a life cut short. Those who would have known him and passed his story on to the next generations didn’t get to know him well or were born too late. The things we do know about him may possibly be attributed, in part, to the period of time and situation in which he lived. Edd was born in the difficult decades after the Civil War when the people of Eastern Kentucky were often at war with themselves.

Some of the things we do know about Edd were that he came to Arkansas from Kentucky around 1909. He is living in the household of brother, Floyd Spencer, along with Floyd's wife, Reatha, and son Zollie, in the 1910 Census for Johnson County, Arkansas.

Edd married Dora Harless on December 8, 1918 in Blackville (more likely Blackwell), Conway County, Arkansas.

Edd and Dora had a son named Adam Daniel Boone ‘Boonie’ Spencer on February 23, 1923 in Arkansas.

Edd died in a hospital on May 7, 1925 in Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas at the age of 37.
