Irvin Benton, son of Jim and Ethel Priester Benton, was born September 23, 1932, in Hartville, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, February 20, 2005, in Christian Healthcare North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-two years, four months, and twenty-seven days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tamara Myers; and a brother, Ferris Benton.
Irvin is survived by his children, Terry Benton, and his wife, Kendra, of Rogersville, Missouri, and Jennifer Ryan, and her husband, Eddie, of Conway, Missouri; three grandchildren, Evan, Kesten, and Andrea Benton; two step-grandchildren, Tim Ryan, and James Pinion; the mother of his children, Aniece Hemminger, of Lebanon, Missouri; four brothers, M.J., Dallas, and Burnell Benton, all of Eugene, Oregon, and Edsel Benton, and his wife, Charlene, of the State of Florida; a sister, Carlene Burris, of Nixa, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Hartville community, and attended Loring School. At the age of seventeen, he entered the United States Navy, and served his country faithfully during the Korea War. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he made his home in Kansas City, Missouri for fifteen years, and was employed by the Owens Corning Fiberglass Company for several of those years. He then made his home in Marshfield, Missouri, where he worked at the steel plant. Eventually, he moved back to the Hartville area and was employed as a heavy equipment operator doing construction work.
He was a member of the American Legion. He was a friendly man who never met a stranger, and also was a very giving person. In his spare time he enjoyed caring for his cattle, fishing, and working in his garden. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Irvin was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments, and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2005, in the Holman-Howe Chapel. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, Missouri.
