Sallie Pike Whatley, 83, of Roanoke, formerly of LaGrange, Ga., died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at her residence.

Mrs. Whatley was born Feb. 18, 1919, in Fairplay, S.C., daughter of the late Thomas Wilburn Irvin [sic Eaton] and the late Evie Jane Standridge Eaton. She was retired from Hillside Plant of Callaway Mills and was a Baptist.

Services were at 5 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel, LaGrange, with the Rev. S. T. Janney officiating. Burial was in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Surviving are four daughters, Sue Smith of Roanoke, Jackie Hill of Rock Mills, Brenda Farrow of Valley and Vera Whatley of LaGrange; 36 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Rilla Alewine of Fitzgerald, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Turner and Pauline Hill; a son Tommy Pike; and her husband, Buford Pike.

Arrangements were by Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home, LaGrange.
