NEW ALBANY TRIBUNE OBITUARY - 03/11/2008
Funeral services for Edna H. Hottell, 96, of Georgetown, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Gehlbach and Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown, with burial in Wolfe Cemetery. She died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany. She was born in New Albany on March 17, 1911, the daughter of Augustus and Alice Rusk Rochner. Along with her husband, she was the co-owner and operator of their dairy business. She was the oldest living graduate of Georgetown High School from the class of 1929 and was also a professional basketball player for Georgetown in 1929 and 1930 where she was paid five dollars per game. She was a lifetime member of Christ United Methodist Church formerly the E.U.B. Survivors include a son, Kendall L. Hottell and his wife, Georgia, of Indianapolis; a daughter, Darla Herthel and her husband, Ray, Georgetown; five grandchildren, Rhonda Smith, Starlight, Gary Welsh, Pleasureville, Ky., Scott Hottell, Angola, Todd Hottell, Brownsburg and Lora Reihl, Fishers; and eight great grandchildren, Matt, Nathan, Mindy and Nicole Smith, Jeff and Kari Hudson and Mason, Abigail, Luke and Madison Hottell. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Kendall Augustus Hottell. Visitation at the funeral will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to Christ United Methodist Church in her memory.
