Nancy Charlene (Brink) (Bohm) Oakes was born on March 7, 1935, to Earl "Bud" and Etta (Harris) Brink in Willow Township. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She received her education in rural schools in the Dow City and Denison area.

On July 27, 1951, Nancy married Loyd Bohm at St. John Lutheran Church in Buck Grove, Iowa. They made their home in rural Buck Grove where they farmed. This union was blessed with four children: Carl, Steve, Kevin and Brenda. In 1976, Loyd passed away at the age of 47. On June 25, 1977, Nancy married Glen Oakes at St. John Lutheran Church in Buck Grove, Iowa.

Already at young age, Nancy was a hard worker, keeping house and cooking for other families. She later worked at Watje's Café and JoMart Steakhouse as a waitress and hostess, and also as a clerk at Johnson Drug. After getting her GED, Nancy went to work for the Department of Human Services as a social worker until 2000, when her and Glen retired and moved to Cherokee Village, Arkansas.

Nancy's hobbies included baking and decorating beautiful wedding cakes, playing her church organ, sewing, fishing, and camping. She was the wealth of knowledge on all thing's family. Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her family and their happiness were her top priority.

Nancy passed away suddenly on March 29, 2023 at White River Medical Center in Cherokee Village, Arkansas, attaining the age of 88 years and 22 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Loyd Bohm; grandson, Daniel Swanson; siblings: Donald, Larry, Robert, Richard, James, Judith and Connie.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Glen Oakes; children: Carl (Monica) Bohm, Kevin (Cindi Jo) Bohm of Denison; Steve (Cindy) Bohm of Arion and Brenda (Darrell) Bissen of Buck Grove; step-children: David Oakes, Michael (Carol) Oakes, and Donna Oakes; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; siblings: Kenny (Pat) Brink, Tom (Denise) Brink and Wendy (Bill) Bryan; sisters-in-law: Donna Brink, Elaine Brink, Maxine Brink, Della Peters and Betty (Clyde) Wacker; brothers-in-law: Richard Bell, Ed (Karen) Bohm and Don (Oline) Bohm; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation with Family Greeting Friends will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 7, 2023 with a prayer service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Interment will follow in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Memorials may be directed to the family.
