Director of hospitals of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. He was a surgeon and physician for the English during the French and Indian War. He was married to Elizabeth Harrison, the daughter of Benjamin Harrison, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. She was a sister of the nineth President of the United States, William Henry Harrison.

The origin of Dr. Rickman has been questioned for decades. According to Wikipedia, there are two schools of thought. The most prevalent was produced by Mrs. Claude Randleman in the 1960s. The less prevalent, but most recent, was produced by the Kittiewan Plantation Historian and should be considered the more accurate.

The early version has him born in 1715 at Princess Anne County Virginia and married first to Sarah Van Meter.

The recent research indicates that he was born in 1731 in England and married Elizabeth Harrison. Kittiewan Plantation invites any Rickman descendant to provide primary documentation to substantiate an earlier marriage.
