George Burks Blake, Sr., 86, passed away March 7, 2008. The family will hold a private graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery Monday, March 10.

George was born in Houston, Texas, to William Mark Blake and Marion (Rowland) Blake. He graduated from high school in Lubbock. Mr. Blake served in the United States Air Force in World War II and flew on numerous bombing missions in the Pacific Theatre. Upon his return from the war, he obtained his degree in business administration from Texas Tech University. He later moved to Midland, where he was active in the oil and gas business and was a member of the Petroleum Club. In April, 1957, he married Nanette Harris, and in 1965, they subsequently moved with their children from west Texas to Waco, where he was employed with the Veterans Administration. Mr. Blake was a member of First United Methodist Church and was honored as a long time American Red Cross blood donor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nanette, in 2006.

He is survived by sons, George Burks Blake, Jr. and wife, Zulay, of Lakeway and Randall Harris Blake, of San Antonio; daughter, Barbara B. Blake, of Dallas; step-son, Willard E. Brown, III, of Waco; grandson, Authur George Blake, of Lakeway; and step-granddaughters, Mrs. John Bowmer Sands, of Dallas and Mrs. Daniel Owen Stadele, of New York City.

The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff of Providence Park, including both St. Catherine's and St. Elizabeth's for the care provided.
