Joy Ford Mayo (81) Date of Death, Tuesday, March 28, 2023
Preceded in death by parents, James (Pud) and Lottie Milliken Ford; husband, Jimmy Mayo, Sr.; son, Jimmy "Bubba" Mayo, Jr.; and brother, Guy Ford. Survived by daughter, Fairy (Bo Henderson) Mayo; grandson, Jared Mayo; great grandsons, Trevor Mayo and Clayton Mayo; sisters, Sandra Ford and Deborah (Tony) Decker; sisters-in-law, Pamela Ford, Peggy (Rick) Begley, Ruth (Roy) Holloway, Doris (Milton) Mayes; step granddaughter, Ashley Hastings; step grandson, Michael Harris III; four step great grandchildren; and dearly loved friend and companion, George David Binkley.
She was a long time member of Mt. Zion FWB Church, with 25 years as a SS teacher of youth. She also had 30 plus years of volunteer service with MTC Boy Scouts of America. She served in Cub Scouts, various positions in the Highland Rim District, and Asst. Scoutmaster. She was instrumental in the charting of BSA Troop 458. Her love of nature and being "Outdoors" served her well in Scouting. She also loved flowers and "digging in the dirt" which led to her business of "Ma Joy's Flowers." Her ready smile and outgoing nature brought her many friends during her lifetime. Her self-description was "I'm ALL Country and a little bit redneck."
Funeral service will be Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 2pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home, conducted by Bro. Jason Bell and Bro. Dwayne James. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion FWB Church Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee. Visitation will be Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 1pm to 7pm and on Sunday, April 2nd from 11am until service hour of 2pm. Serving as active pallbearers will be Ben Osborne, Rex Boyd, A.G. Knight, Jimmy Brown, Donnie Eli, Junior Wolverton, Sam Anderson, and Jared Mayo. Honorary pallbearers are Fred Nordquist and Jeff Morris. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research.
