Eustacio Chávez, age 88, a lifelong resident of Cuba, NM, passed from this life to the next on Monday, March 27, 2023.
Eustacio is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Euphemia, five children,
Marian Lovato (James), Paul Duwayne Chávez (Elena), Shirley Chávez Ortega, Tommy Chávez (Susan) and Isabel Jácquez (Arsenio) and 13 grandchildren, Alejandro Ortega (Stephanie), Amanda Demko (Michael), Marcella Fort (Caleb), Brian Lovato, Arsenio Jácquez Jr. (Sara), Marcos Chávez (Caitlin), Carlos Ortega, Orlando Jácquez, Ramona Florez (Rueben), Daniel Chávez (Mary), Olivia Pimentel (Helder), Christina Lovato and Pablo Chávez. Tacho is survived by 13 great-grandchildren, Maricella, Iliana, Delilah, Alejandra, Juliet, Mateo, Santiago, Rosa, Marisol, Valeria, Celestino, Eustacio and one expected in September. Eustacio is also survived by two sisters, Dorella Aragón and Theresa Salaz (Mere), two brothers, Leo Chávez and Frank Chávez (Rosemary) and many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.
Eustacio was preceded in death by his parents, Telesfor and Celia Chávez and his brothers, Vidal Chávez, Felimon Chávez and Conrado Chávez.
Eustacio was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church and was active in the church choir until he was no longer physically able to participate.
Eustacio worked as a logger in his early years and then worked as a school bus contractor for 30 years. Tacho's passion was ranching. Eustacio was happiest on horseback or riding around in his truck checking on his cows, but his true treasure was his family.
Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cuba, New Mexico. Interment will follow at Santo Niño Mission Cemetery, La Jara, New Mexico.
