Services were held at Turner Funeral Home, Spirit Lake, on Monday, February 6, 1995, for Hazel V. Elkin, age 70 [sic], of Des Moines. Rev. James W. Stiles of the United Methodist Church officiated the service.

Hazel V. Elkin was born on March 9, 1914 in Jackson County, Minn., to L.J. and Gusta (Mathre) Hoovel. She graduated from Superior High School.

She was united in marriage to Harry Elkin on February 14, 1935 in Estherville. The couple made their home in the Spirit Lake area all of their married lives. Hazel was employed at Chozen's in Spirit Lake for many years.

Hazel moved to Des Moines two years ago and made her home in the Beaver Dale Estates. She passed away on Friday, February 3, 1995, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; three brothers, Lyle Hoovel, Francis Hoover and Floyd Hoovel; and five sisters, Stella Davidson, Selda Knutson, Blanch Jacobs, Sophia Halleck and her twin, Florence Elkin.

Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Spirit Lake.

Turner Funeral Home of Spirit Lake was in charge of arrangements.
