Valdez resident Fred H. Ross, 76, a retired inspector, died Dec. 9 at Providence Hospital. A funeral was held at the First Baptist Church in Valdez. Burial took place in the Valdez Cemetery.
Mr. Ross was born April 4, 1914, in Casper, Wyo. He had been an Alaska resident for 26 years. He was a retired inspector for Kodiak Airways, where he had worked from 1964 to 1978. He was a hunter and fisherman and made bolo ties, belt buckles and knives. Mr. Ross was a member of the American Legion and, according to his family, was a friend to everybody he came in contact with.
He is survived by his wife, Vera, of Valdez; his daughter, Vera Luman of Anchorage; his sons, Fred Jr. of Rockport, Texas, and Reagan of Casper; his grandchildren, Rocky Luman, April Luman, Yevonne Ross, Amy Elliff and Kellie Ross; and his great-grandsons, Joseph Selmont, Branden Luman, and Travis Luman. Local arrangements were by Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary and Crematory.
