Linda Lyon passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on March 24, 2021, 7 years after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Linda fought a long and courageous battle. Albert said many times he knew how tough of a Norwegian she was as she never complained and was so strong throughout her treatments.
Just weeks ago Linda celebrated her 74th birthday at home with family. She was born in Mount Vernon, WA, to Norris and Borghild Anderson. Linda was the 6th of their 10 children.
She adored all her siblings and enjoyed all the many family gatherings throughout the years. Linda went on to graduate from Mount Vernon High School. She married Albert Lyon in November 1967, although while in high school, she would hide from him in the school bathroom when she heard he was going to ask her out on a date! Some things are meant to be.
After their wedding they moved to Germany where Albert was stationed with the US Army. With just a tent and barely enough money for gas, they were able to visit many countries in Europe during their time abroad. Linda especially loved visiting all the castles.
After Germany, they were stationed in Maryland where their daughter Melanie was born. In 1973 Albert left the Army after 8 years of service.
They decided to move back home to Washington to be near family. They settled first in Everett, then onto Stanwood and finally back to Mount Vernon.
Linda worked in banking for many decades and later in title and escrow. In 1993 Albert and Linda opened Lyon's Furniture & Sleep Center in Downtown Mount Vernon.
Linda took care of the books, always balancing down to the last penny, true to her banking roots. She loved to decorate and would go "all out" at Christmas. Her Christmas Village display in the furniture store window every year was enjoyed by many.
She took great joy working in her flower beds and always made sure to keep the Hummingbird feeders full. She loved going to the nursery with Albert or Melanie to find new additions for the garden. She also loved decorating her home with various collections, her favorite being antique Hull Pottery.
Linda also liked to crochet and made many baby blankets for friends and family over the years. She and Albert shared a love of football and they rarely missed a Seattle Seahawks game.
Linda was a great life partner to Albert. They loved to travel, especially their trip to Depoe Bay every year. They would visit their favorite antique and book stores, as they are both avid readers and collectors. Linda was an amazing mother to Melanie.
They shared interests of gardening, decorating and antiquing. They have many fun memories from their mother-daughter trips together to Victoria, Leavenworth and Chelan. Al, Linda, Melanie and Steve all share a love of Lake Chelan and enjoyed trips there together as a family.
They all dreamed of building a home together at Lake Chelan on their property. Linda, just a couple weeks ago, said to make sure the dream happens. Steve and Linda especially spent a lot of enjoyable time designing the perfect floor plan. Linda loved anything to do with designing and decorating homes, it was a true passion.
Linda is survived in death by her husband, Albert, of 53 years and daughter and son-in-law Melanie and Steve Schons, sisters Helen Suthers, Nancy Adams, Evelyn Venesky and brothers Norman and Mark Anderson; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Norris and Borghild Anderson, Brothers Donald and Lee Anderson, and sisters Joyce Suthers and Carolyn Geisendorf.
We give special thanks for the care given by Dr. Mehrad Jafari, and his nurse Teresa, of Skagit Regional Health Cancer Care Center. Also, heartfelt thanks to Dr. Maria Putney of Halleck Holistic Health who gave Linda such comfort with her care and friendship.
