Thomas moved to New Jersey, settling on the sought branch of Pennsuaken Creek near the Colestown Cemetery. He married Letitia Hinchman in 1727 and lived in a 'hip-roofed house' on the hill-side to the south of their later home. In 1742 they built a substantial brick house on the plantation which consisted of 200 and odd acres.
