Moses Long and Rhoda 'Atchley.'
He was the grandson of Rev.George
Washington Long 1 and
Nancy Elizabeth 'Maples' Long.
Also, Thomas Atchley and
Lydia 'Richards' Atchley.
James married Sarah Ann Dodson,
they were married on Aug. 28, 1872.
The couple had 7 children:
Florence Emma
George Franklin
Robert Edgar
Birch Lee
Henry Roy
James Albert
Grace Long
James was a member of the
Salem Baptist church. He
was deacon for many years and
also taught Sunday School.
His parents had been very active
in the church while he was a
young child. He studied in
the Riceville Academy. James lived
in the area all of his life. He
was the last of the children of
Moses and Rhoda that was living
in 1936, he was their last child
and son to be born.
NOTE: James was living and
wrote to Maud 'Long' Horn on
July 2nd., 1936, when she was
compiling the information for her
book. The family has a copy of
the letter. He wrote a very
loving letter with wonderful
stories of his mother, Rhoda
and his father, Moses.
AT THIS TIME, James didn't
dispute the fact that his
great grandparents were John
and Mary Long.
NOTE: The picture of Moses, his
father, that is seen now online
was first given to PAR by his branch
of family. My thanks to them for being
so kind and sharing the family picture
and history.
