Buried with wife, Martha A. Luttrell Byerley. H.E. Byerley was the son of James Byerley who is buried near him. He was a half-brother to the four Byerley brothers from Grainger County who fought together for the Union in the Civil War. He had another half-brother, his mother's son, who also fought with them. His large, elaborate grave marker lists all the churches at which he preached, and his ordination date, June 7, 1879. His biography is in a book on Tennessee Baptist Preachers.
