Robert W. Allen was the second of seven children born to Alvin Bradley Allen (b. NY) and his wife, Charlotte McCarthy (b. Canada) in Michigan. He grew up to become a farmer in Rush, Shiawassee County, Michigan. He was married to Sarah Jane Curtis. Together, they were the parents of four children, including Leslie J. Allen, Roy Milton Allen, Charlotte E. Allen and Myrtie May Allen (m. George Kramp).
