FORT WORTH - Flavin James Arseneau, 82, died Sunday, March 2, 2008.

Funeral: 1 p.m. Monday, March 10, in Robert Carr Chapel at TCU. The Rev. Cynthia Lee will officiate. Interment: 3 p.m. Monday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: was 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home.

Memorials: His memory may be honored with a donation to The Home of Love Orphanage in Bangladesh, in care of New Life Providence Church, attention: Chris Russell, 1244 Thompkins Lane, Virginia Beach, Va. 23464.

Flavin James Arseneau was born April 2, 1925, in Fort Worth. He graduated from Paschal High School and TCU with a bachelor of science and master of science. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, flying Hellcats, Wildcats, Corsairs and Cougars, and retired as a lieutenant commander.

Flavin James Arseneau was a master teacher of 36 years at Arlington Heights High School, Navy fighter pilot, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He was known to his grandchildren as Papaw, Shark and Grandpa Flavin, and known to his students as Mr. A and to his friends as A. He was well respected in the field of science on local, state and national levels and was awarded numerous accolades for his achievements in research and work with his students. He founded the Fort Worth Science Fair and was a pioneer researcher concerning the effects of DDT on marine and wetland wildlife plus many other scientific endeavors. Many of his students entered the fields of research and medicine, making our world a better place. His entire life he gave of himself to family, friends, neighbors and strangers.

During his retirement years, he and his wife traveled the United States and lived a full, happy life together. In his later years, he drew closer to God and had always been devoted to the care of Billie, his wife of 62 years.

He will be missed by many but leaves a strong legacy of wisdom and compassion for his family and all those he touched.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Albert; mother, Elsie Mae Jones Arseneau; and father, John Arseneau.

Survivors: Wife of 62 years, children, grandchildren, brother, nephews, nieces and many friends.
