News was received by cable on Wednesday of the death, which occurred at Cranford, Middlesex, England, of Mrs. Sigmond (Bessie) Hoffnung, widow of the late founder of the well-known firm of Messrs. S. Hoffnung & Co, Ltd., of Sydney and Brisbane. Mrs. Hoffnung was born nearly 75 years ago in Sydney, where her early life, both prior and subsequent to her marriage, was spent. She was a sister of Mr. David Marks, of London, and of Mr. B. F. Marks, of Potts Point, Sydney, both of whom were formerly managing partners of the firm above mentioned, and of the late Mr. Adolphus Marks, of Sydney. For nearly forty years past Mrs. Hoffnung and her late husband resided in England. Their last visit to Sydney was paid in the early eighties. Mrs. Hoffnung leaves one child, Mr. Sidney B. F. Hoffnung Goldsmid, of London, who is married to Violet, the Baroness de Goldsmid e de Palmeira, the eldest daughter of the late Right Hon. Sir Julian Goldsmid, Bart. M.P.
