Vincent Scott was born Dec. 11, 1805 in Nicholas County, Kentucky, the son of Jonathan Scott and Catherine Borders.

Vincent was the grandson of Simon Scott, who was kidnapped in Scotland when he was about 16 years of age. He was then transported to the Carolinas where he was sold into indenture for a number of years.

Vincent was married three times.

He had three children by his first wife, and one child by his third wife.

1828 - Vincent married 1st wife - Susan Ellis on Aug 21, 1828 in Nicholas Kentucky. They were married by Elder John Rogers. Their children were Francis Jane (b: 1830), James W. (b: 1833), Jonathan (b: 1834), Benjamin E. (b: 1836), Maria (b: 1838), Vincent T (b: 1841), William M. (b: 1843), Levi M. (b: 1847), and Daniel(Babe) (b: 1849).

1851 - Vincent married 2nd wife - Sophronia A. (Beck) Lamar on Mar. 15, 1851 in Indiana. They had no children together.

1860 - Listed is Vincent Scott in Spring Point (Post Office: Cornton), Cumberland, Illinois with his family which consists of: Vincent Scott (age 55; b: 1805 in Kentucky); Sophronia A Scott 55; [Vincent] Thomas Scott 18, William M Scott 15; Daniel Scott 11; James Lamar Scott 18; Nancy Weathers 11

Benjamin E Scott died at Van Buren G H Millikens Bend, Louisiana

Jonathan Scott is buried in Vicksburg National Cemetery, Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi (Memorial ID 130266274)

1865 - Vincent married 3rd wife - Elizabeth Lake-Gaines Aug. 28 (or 31), 1865 in Coles County, Illinois. They were married by Elder Isaac Hart Minister of the Gospel.

Vincent and Elizabeth left Illinois for Kansas between 1865 -1867 with Daniel Scott, age 21 (his son w/Susanna) along with Elizabeth's children Joel Henry Gaines age 16, Clemency Ann Gaines age 14, Lucinda Gaines age 12 and George W Gaines age 10.

1867 - In Kansas, Neosho County, Cansville Township near Chanute, Robert Jefferson Scott was born 1867.

1870 - Listed is Vincent Scott, with his wife Elizabeth and family are recorded in the Spring 1870 US Census Kansas, Neosho Co, Town of Cansville. In Aug, 1870 (at age 64) Vincent Scott died as a result of a farming accident (according to family memories). Elizabeth was left to tend to the family and she was pregnant with twins.

1871 - In March 1871 Elizabeth gave birth to twin boys whom she named Francis A. Scott and Charlie E. Scott. The boys died a few days later. Vincent and his twin boys lie together across the road from Leanna Christian Church in Leanna Cemetery.

Note:
The Estate Sale Article dated 1871 for Vincent Scott lists heirs "Frank Woody" and and "Jane Woody". This is an error. Vincent's oldest child was a dau. named Frances Jane Woody.

Vincent's widow Elizabeth and family remained in Kansas through 1875. By 1880, her and the children had returned to Illinois. They were living in Shelby Co, Ash Grove Township. It is believed that Elizabeth lived around Mattoon in Cole County, Illinois until her death.

Note:
Around 1890, Vincent's sister Rebecca Mariah R. (Scott) Ellis and her husband James Nicholas Ellis were buried with them at Leanna Cemetery.

* New info as of Sept 25,2017 - comes to us by Gale Honeyman, co-director Brethren Heritage Center. Jonathan's New Testament Bible is part of a collection at the Brethren Heritage Center in Brookville, OH. The bible was published in the German language at Philadelphia PA in 1791. Written in English is Jonathan's birthdate, March 20th, 1778. The births of 4 children are listed: {Sarah} Sary 24 Feb 1804, Vincent 10 Dec 1805, Levy 8 Dec 1807 and Elizabeth 1 Feb 1808. On a second page, are repeat births for Sarah as her name appears, Vincent and Levi as his name appears, the latter including "son of Jonathan Scott and Callron or Calhrn His wife" but not Elizabeth. There is no date for Catherine.

I do not know how this little volume was acquired as we have an extensive collection that was not properly identified when given to us. Gale Honeyman, co-director Brethren Heritage Center
