Died in Palatka, at 8 p.m., December 31st, 1886, John F. Teasdale, aged 21 years, 10 months and 9 days.
As the old year passed away a young life went with it, and passed through the darkness of which we know nothing, save that therein abides the love of God as compensation for all that mortals may leave behind. The New Year brought us rain and darkened skies; there are no tears for the children who pass to the presence of that Father whose glory fills the bounds of space as well as the heart of the least among us.
The deceased had just reached the age of manhood; his course for the future lay fair before him, and the love of father and mother and brother and sisters encompassed him about. But disease laid his finger upon him; on youthful form and kindling eye, and eager brain felt its blighting touch, and all that is mortal of John F. Teasdale is now a casket empty of that which gave it beauty and life and promise. That which was the youth well-beloved, and cherished fair hopes of an honored and useful manhood, has answered the call of One wiser, and more tender than even the mother to whom her younger son was as the apple of the eye, and is gone from among us.
To the father, whose gray hairs are crowned with honor by his people and the kindred and friends on whom the desolation of sore loss has fallen the hearts of thousands go out in condolence and deep sympathy. To them can come only the consolation born of the faith that the dead are not lost because beyond our sight and touch.
The friends and acquaintances and public generally are respectfully invited to pay the last tribute to the memory of Mr. John F. Teasdale, by attending his funeral from the Catholic Church, at 3 p.m., Sunday, January 2nd, 1887. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd Sunday, 2 Jan 1887.)
