Gladys M. Chidester,age 89, of Carterville, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Spring River Christian Center. Gladys was born on February 17, 1919 in Carthage, Mo. to Everett Call and Pearl (Grissom) Call. She was a lifetime area resident. On September 11, 1936, she married Joseph Chidester. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1989. She was a member of the Carterville Baptist Church. Gladys loved to work with her hands doing flowers in the garden and making quilts. She also enjoyed helping others. She volunteered at Crosslines and delivered Meals on Wheels to area residents. She enjoyed during charitable work. Survivors include a son Joe Chidester of Joplin, 3 daughters Joyce Burton of Carthage, Carol Kulp of Joplin and Debra Pretzer of Warren, Michigan; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Gladys was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and a sister. Graveside Services for Mrs. Chidester will be Sunday, March 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Open Air Pavilion at Mt. Hope Cemetery with Rev. Bob Easton Officiating. Services are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.
