Andrew Y. Cox is the son of Coleman Cox of Washington County, Arkansas, and his second wife Mary Ellen "Polly" Youngbird (or Youngblood). He was their first child, born in 1829. Coleman and Polly Cox were charter members of the Cane Hill Congregation of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Andrew Y. Cox married first in 1853 to Margaret Frances "Fanny" Williamson of Pope County; they were to have six children. She died in 1864. Andrew Y. Cox married second in 1866 to Sarah Jane Hughey, also of Pope County; they were to have seven children. She died in July 1925. Rev. Andrew Y. Cox was an ordained minister of the Gospel in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, as were his half-brothers Anderson Cox, Burwell Cox, and Samuel B. Cox. His ministry was conducted primarily in Pope County, Arkansas.
