Walter "Skip" C. Smathers, 74, died at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky on Friday, March 4, 2022, following failing health.

Skip was born in Bellaire, Ohio on September 4,1947 to Mary Ellen (Cunningham) and Walter A. Smathers. He graduated from Shady Side High School in 1965 and attended Bowling Green State University.

Mr. Smathers was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Clyde and formerly a member of Vacationland Campers for 20 years.

Skip retired from Heinz on January 1, 2004, after 33 years of employment. He then worked for Disney World as a Cast Member for eight winters, Harts Ambulette and Billing Sales and Service in car transport.

On November 22, 1969, he married Emily Emerson. She, along with their children, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Smathers of Norwalk; Kimberly Smathers of Clyde and Laura (Dan) Johlin of Woodville survive. Four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, his sister, Cindy (Keith) Galloway of Jefferson, Maryland and half sister, Monica Matthews of Arden North Carolina also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kristi Kaye Dawson.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 10,2022 from 9:30 am until 10:15 am at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde, Ohio. The funeral mass will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Clyde, Ohio. Burial will be in the Columbium at the cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Hemophilia Foundation of Northwest Ohio.
