Virginia E. Fanger, 87, died in Scottsdale, Arizona, on February 28, 2008. Virginia was born in Port Huron, Michigan on October 29, 1920 to Guy Lossing and Sylvia Laforest Lossing. She grew up in the Port Huron area and graduated from Marine City High School in 1938. In 1941, she was married to Leonard Fanger. The couple moved to Bay City, Michigan where they lived until Leonard's retirement. After that, they divided their time between Lake City, Michigan and Mesa. In 1995, they became permanent residents of Arizona. Leonard and Virginia had been married for 60 years when he died in 2001. Virginia worked as an administrative assistant for the Bay City Board of Education for several years and, wherever she lived, she volunteered in the community: for the Red Cross in Bay City, for the library in Lake City, and at the then Mesa Lutheran Hospital in Mesa. Virginia is survived by her daughter Cindy Cunningham and son-in-law, Dave; sister Geri Edson; brother Marvin Lossing; grandchildren Mark and Scott Cunningham and Marcia Cunningham; three great-grandchildren, Christine Tafoya (Adam), Audrey and Brandon Cunningham, and two great-great grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Tafoya, all of Arizona. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at the Velda Rose United Methodist Church, 5540 E. Main Street in Mesa on Saturday, March 8 at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery, Cave Creek, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts be sent in her memory to Life Choices Pregnancy Help Clinic, 9313 N. 7th Street, Phoenix, 85020 or to UMOM New Day Centers, 3320 E Van Buren, Phoenix, 85008.
