Soon after this deeding a log church was constructed from the abundant supply of walnut, oak and poplar trees that grew in this territory, and they became part of the Eel River Circuit.

In 1862 Linder L & Martha Killion deeded one acre of land for the Killion Cemetery which was one-quarter mile north of the church.

Aaron Leonard purchased land(400 acres) though land grants from the Genral Land Office at Vincennes, IN, shortly after Indiana became a state. The "sheepskins" were signed by Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren, and John Tyler, President at the time. He also obtained land from the Wabash and Erie Canal and through other purchases.
