Donald Barnhart, age 77, of Bear, DE, passed away after a long illness on March 9, 2023.
Donald was born in Drexel Hill, PA where he resided until moving to Delaware in 1978.

He graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School in Upper Darby, PA and went on to graduate from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. He later received an MBA from Wilmington College. He spent his career as an accountant for a grocery food chain before retiring. He enjoyed golfing, with the highlight of his year being his annual trip with his golfing buddies. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, earning the nickname 'Poppy' at the baseball field – a name that stuck with his children, grandchildren, and all the baseball parents he was acquainted with. He also spent time with his family at his beach house outside of Lewes, DE, usually trying to find a quiet place while all the grandkids were running around.

Donald is survived by his children: Natalie Barnhart, Jennifer Weglarz (John), Don Barnhart Jr. (Denise), and Brian Barnhart (Jamie); and his sister, Lynne Barnhart (Matt). He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: John Weglarz Jr., Nick Barnhart, Jarrett Weglarz, Alexis Barnhart, Julia Weglarz, Spencer Barnhart, Chase Barnhart and Paige Barnhart.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Bernadette; his brother Jim; and his parents, Edward and Dorothy.

His children are especially grateful for the love and support over the past few months from his sister Lynne and sisters-in-law, Sue Nixon and Renie Abramowicz.

A visitation for Donald will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at St. Margaret's of Scotland Roman Catholic Church, 2431 Frazer Rd, Newark, DE 19702, where family and friends may call from 10 AM to 11 AM, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Donald's name to the American Cancer Society (donate.cancer.org)
