Cruso – Edna Birdell Gorrell Wheeler, age 87, entered into Paradise on Saturday evening, March 11, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Birdell was a native and resident of the Cruso community where she was well-known for her kindness, cooking wonderful meals- especially her "tater salad," and sharing her love for all those around her. She loved working in her garden, canning and preserving then sharing her bounty with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and making beautiful quilts.

Mrs. Wheeler was a faithful member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a strong Prayer Warrior who read her Bible daily and her love for Jesus was evident in the life she lived. Birdell is so greatly missed and we love her so much.

Birdell is preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Pless Gorrell and Clyde Gorrell; also a granddaughter, Rachel Williams.

Surviving are her loving husband of 68 years, James Howard Wheeler of Cruso; children, Rita Ann Shuford (David) of Fairview, David Wheeler of Grover, Kimberly Shuford (Anthony) of Marion, and Dale Wheeler (Melanie) of Canton; sisters, Betty Jo Long and Shirley Leatherwood both of Canton; a brother, Jesse Clyde Gordell (Jean) of Rogersville, AL; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and also a multitude of special friends who loved her dearly.
