Sarah was the daughter of Thomas Edward Gillihan and Elizabeth Beller. She married John Jefferson Hinkle and had 7 children: Martha 1889-1994, William Riley 1892-1974, James Monroe 1894-1949, Thomas Jefferson 1896-1938, Melvina 1898-1969, Rachel 1900-1974, Buell 1902-1966. Buell Vernon was a baby when his momma died. He was born in March and in the Fall it was told by his half sister Cletis Hinkle Foster 1909-2006 that before her momma married John Jefferson Hinkle his wife Sarah died in a house fire caused by the train. She was at home with the children and by the time she got the babies out of the house and ran back in for belongings that she died of smoke inhalation. Townfolk and railroad workers tried to help but they couldn't save her. She was buried in what is now called the Old White House Cemetery near where their house was near Athens in Izard County, Arkansas.
