The funeral of Mrs. Maurice E. Power who died in Berkeley Friday following the birth of an infant daughter will be held from St. Mary's Roman Catholic church. Interment in the Catholic cemetery.
Mrs. Powers' death came as a deep shock to her many friends in Visalia. She left Visalia for Berkeley last week to escape the warm weather. She made her home while in the bay city with C.L. Rhodes of 2638 Benvenue Avenue.
Friday afternoon M.E. Power was summoned to Berkeley by his daughter Ellen about 5 o'clock. The message announced the birth of a baby girl. No indication of Mrs. Power's condition was contained in the message. Mr. Power left for Berkeley on the 7:20 train. Mrs. Power succumbed at 8:30 Friday evening. The infant daughter died yesterday morning.
Mrs. Power was in fine spirits and was preparing to go out for dinner when she was taken ill according to reports. Two nurses and physicians were summoned immediately. At 5 o'clock the baby was born.
Mrs. Power before her wedding about twenty years ago was Miss Nellie Kilbreath. She was born in Tulare county, in the hills above White River, and spent practically all her life here. She was about 38 years of age. She is survived by her husband, her daughter Ellen and son John. Her mother, Mrs. Kilbreath lives in Visalia. One brother, George, lived between Porterville and California Hot Springs. The mother has been visiting there and the two have been summoned to Visalia. Another brother, Will Kilbreath, lived on a farm southwest of town. A married sister lives in Los Angeles. As a young woman, Mrs. Power attended school in Visalia and later taught school herself.
She was prominent in social circles as well as church and club life. She was treasurer of the Ladies' Catholic Aid Society and a member of St. Mary's Rosary society.
