On February 24, 2023 Eleonora Fonda completed her life journey as she passed away
peacefully at her home in the presence of her loving family.
Eleonora was born on August 27, 1926 to her adoring parents Giovanni Romanello and Antonia Dobrilla.
Eleonora grew up with her seven siblings on her family farm and orchard; a beautiful
home overlooking the beautiful D'Istrian sea in Pirano, Italy.
She was a young woman during World War II and endured the difficulties of living in postwar Italy while being a new wife to Pietro Fonda, her husband of 76 years, a new mother, and eventually leaving her beautiful and beloved Italy and extended family for a new life in America in 1957. After some challenging years in New Orleans, Eleonora and her children Aldo, Fulvio, Massimo, and Angela made their journey to San Francisco; Eleonora remained in San Francisco for 63 years and worked hard to carve out a life of integrity,
compassion, philanthropy, and hospitality. One of Eleonora's proudest moments on her
life journey was becoming a naturalized American citizen on June 10, 1997. Eleonora
spent years supporting the family business, a shoe store on Fillmore Street, and worked
hard to ensure financial stability for the family through home ownership. She was a
proud member and president of Branch 44 of the Italian Catholic Federation and took
pride in her active role in the Saint Paul's Mother's Club. Eleonora was a gifted cook,
not only serving her family delicious Italian meals but also gifting the priests of Holy
Angels Catholic Parish with her warmth and hospitality in her role as chef there for
many years. She loved gardening in her greenhouse and had a multitude of gorgeous
blooming flowers, orchids and geraniums were her favorites. Eleonora always greeted
her family and friends with a smile from the top of her home's staircase, quickly guiding
all who entered to her kitchen for a quick cup of coffee in a beautiful antique cup,
Italian cookies, or a delicious meal. Her hospitality was her love materialized and as family
joined her around the table, Eleonora shared her wisdom, childhood stories, and the
triumphs and tribulations of her life with those she loved most.
Although Eleonora's journey of life has come to an end, her legacy lives on in the living.
She is survived by her husband, Pietro and her children: Fulvio (Sandy), Massimo
(Rose), and Angela (Ronnie). Eleonora joins her oldest son Aldo Marino who passed
away in 2012.

Her grandchildren: Sara, Marie, Amy, Peter, Nicole, Natalie, Claudia, and Bianca.
Great Grandchildren: Maya, Ava, Massimo, Drake, Santino, Eddie, Benny, Harrison,
Ellie, Bayani, Oakley, Enzo and Marin.
