Memorial services for Philip Kirklin Benbow of Albert Lea will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Todd Walsh will officiate. Visitation will befrom 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Albert Lea. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea Area veterans groups.
Philip died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at St Marys Hospital in Rochester after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 79 years old.
Philip was born April 9, 1928, in Watertown, S.D. the son of Harold and Helen (Warren) Benbow. He graduated from high school in Watertown, S.D. and continued his studies at South Dakota State.
Philip served in the United States Army for two years as a CIC investigator. He was discharged June 24, 1959. He was a proud member of the American Legion.
Philip was united in marriage to Dolores Storvick on Aug. 17, 1991, in Albert Lea.
Philip was an avid golfer, bowler and fisherman. He loved to sing and play the piano and was a longtime member of the Rochester Male Chorus.
Philip is survived by his wife Dolores; children: daughter Diane (Ron) Grobe, son Wayne (Pam) Benbow, daughter Kris (Larry) Brandt, son Brant (Jan) Storvick; and brothers, Ralph (Mary) Benbow and John (Jean) Benbow. Surviving grandchildren include: Ryan Grobe, Rachel Grobe, Dagan Brandt, Alex Brandt, Tom Benbow, Catherine Benbow, Courtney Decker, Brenna Benbow, David Benbow, Andrew Benbow, Carolyn Benbow, Nicole Storvick, Megan Storvick, Cassie Spriggs, Jarrod Spriggs and Jacqui Spriggs. Great-grandchildren include Abigail Thompson, Ashlyn Long, Owen Decker, Mina Quenteres, T.J. Spriggs and JayVeon Spriggs.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Helen Benbow; son Paul Benbow; father-in-law Mervin Wogen; brother-in-law Kendall Wogen; brother-in-law Roger Wogen; brother Bill Benbow; sister Katherine Osander; and sister-in-law Lois Benbow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association or the donor's choice.
