In 1958 he enlisted into the U.S. Army. After boot camp he was stationed in West Germany, New York and Missouri. In 1964 he was honorably discharged from his military service. After his Army career he worked for the Santa Fe railroad. He was a 2nd generation railroad worker following his fathers career path where he was affectionately known as the Professor or Pro for short. To most who knew him he was most notably known as a mechanic and a fierce defender of family.
