Bernie Montoya,75 of Santa Fé, NM, passed away on February 17, 2023 of natural causes after years of enduring a long-term illness.
Bernie was born on April 1, 1947 in Española, NM
Bernie worked with the Española Schools and Las Cumbres for many years, as a teacher assistant for special need kids/adults. Bernie also drove the school bus for 41 years.
Bernie was very smart and talented.
Bernie was well known by many people. Bernie was very kind, lovable and caring. Bernie was loved by her family. Berine was also referred to as Dr. Ruth, when anyone needed any kind of advice,. Bernie always knew what to say to make you feel better.
Bernie had many hobbies, diamond painting, adult coloring books, reading her newspapers, The Sun, New Mexican, you name it and taking care of her plants, watching her old shows, movies and doing her word puzzles. Going to the different casinos with her daughters and granddaughters to spend quality time with them.
Bernie was an inspiration and loved by many people.
Bernie was preceded in death by her father, Filadelfio "Phil" Díaz, mother, Mary Díaz, husband, Casey Montoya Jr., son, Casey Montoya III, brother, Albert Díaz, lifelong companion, Kelly Archuleta, many other family members, also by several pets, dogs, who were her babies.
Bernie is survived by her two loving daughters, Mary Romero (Isaac) and Frances Roybal, grandchildren, Tamara, ReAnn, Raquel (Peter), Casey IV and Isaac Jr., great -grandchildren, Sheri, Marcos and Peter III, brother, Phil Díaz (Marian), sister, Victoria "Corky" Arellano (Richard), comadre, Mary Alice Molina and son-in-law, Jerome Royal.
Bernie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Also close people she referred to as her children, Iffy, Jennifer and Veronica, lifelong friends, Vera, Francine, Mela and Landry. Along with many other close friends and family. And her beloved pets, Jeannie, Socks and Simba.
Rosary Service will be from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 116 S. McCurdy Rd., Española, NM. Funeral Mass will follow from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., also at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will be from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at La Puebla Cemetery, La Puebla, NM.
