Son of Gunning Bedford. Married 1) Susannah Jaquet around 1744 in Pennsylvania; and 2) Mary Stevens on Sept. 1, 1767 in the Presbyterian Church of Abington, Montgomery County (then Philadelphia County), Pa.

Will named widow, Mary, and children Gunning, Jr., Peter, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Ann, and Martha, and daughter-in-law Ann Bedford and her children by Gunning's son Joseph.

Originally interred in the Second Presbyterian burial ground on Arch Street. Removed to Mount Vernon Cemetery when the churchyard was cleared in 1867.
