In Memory of Lucy Jane Evans

While it is not givin to us as friends and neighbors to explain away the grief, which this family is stricken, it is our privilege at this time to do and say the things that make this grief, in its mystery and darkness bearable. To pay a tribute to the beautiful life that has taken it's departure.
Lucy Jane, the oldest of twelve children born near Mt. Comfort, Indiana, on September 16, 1864. During her childhood and adolescent days she was busily engaged in play, helping to mother her brothers and sisters, and acquire a common school education. It was during this period that she developed her qualities of sterling character and physical endurance which were so evident in her life as a wife, mother, and resident of her community. She was all the words "wife" and "mother" implies, and her place as a homemaker and companion will never be stilled.
On May 14, 1885, she became the wife of James Madison Evans. To this union were born eight children:
Iva
Clinton
Carl
Buryl
Tenna
Martha
Cory
Fern
Six of whom have preceded their mother through the twilight which separates life on earth and life eternal.
She leaves to remember her as a faithful wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, a loving sister and loyal friend.
