Son of Marvin Adelbert Allred and Caroline Jensen

Melvin Ariel Allred, 30, of Preston and well known in Bear Lake, was killed outright (5 Dec 1932) and four other men were injured, one seriously, when their automobile went over a 20 foot embankment on federal highway No. 91, three and a half miles west of Preston Monday at 5:30 p.m. Allred was pinned under the couple and his neck was broken. Lloyd Hall of Preston, whose skull was fractured was rushed to a Preston hospital by passing motorists. His condition was reported serious by attaches of the hospital. Cuts and bruises were suffered by Ed Hodge of Preston, driver of the machine; Alvin Coombs and Richard Nelson of Logan, Utah. Hodges said he was blinded by the headlights of an approaching automobile and his coupe left the highway, plunged on an angle for 60 feet down the embankment at the north side of the road and overturned. The accident occurred, he said, when he and his companions were returning to Preston from Dayton, seven miles west of Preston, where they had been chopping stacked hay. Allred moved to Preston two years ago from Mapleton. He previously had lived in Bear Lake county and Randolph, Utah. He is the son of the late Marvin and Caroline Allred. Surviving are a brother, Guy Allred, Mapleton; four sisters, Mrs. Ernest Spatig, Mapleton; Mrs. Bulah Hess of this city; Mrs. Karma Benson, Plano; Miss Ila Allred, Preston; two half-brothers, Parley L. Allred, Preston; Lester, Allred, Paris; two half-sisters, Mrs. Angelia Rich, Afton, Wyo.; and Mrs. E. Thomander, Murray, Utah
