Mary Sue Alexander, 90, of Greenville died early in the morning on Feb. 4, 2009, at Hunt Regional Medical Center. A memorial service is scheduled at 1 p.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.

Mary Sue Alexander, 90, a lifelong resident of Greenville, died early in the morning of Feb. 4, 2009, at Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville. A memorial service is scheduled at 1 p.m. today at Wesley United Methodist Church in Greenville under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. Perry Smith is officiant. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of Ed B. Sr. and Susie Lee Joiner Williams. She married Sam Reeves Alexander on June 5, 1937; he preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1975.

Mary Sue was a homemaker who loved her family, cooking and entertaining. She belonged to the Junior Pallas Club, the Dirtdobbers Garden Club and two bridge clubs. Her love of traveling started with her husband. Following his death, she continued to take cruises and enjoyed visiting interesting parts of the world. Cruising became a yearly adventure for Mary Sue until her health started to fail in 2004. She went on 26 world cruises which gave her many pictures, memories and stories to share with her family and friends. Dancing was another love of her life. As a young girl, she enjoyed dancing and continued to dance on the cruise ships and anywhere else she could find a band playing up until the last few months of her life.

She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia DeVeny and Sue Ann Harting; three grandchildren, Dianne DeVeny, David DeVeny and Alexandra Alexander; one great-granddaughter, Shannon Nicole DeVeny; one sister, Rosabel Warren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorthea Riley and Ina Vorderlandwhr; one brother, Ed B. Williams Jr.; and her parents.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.

Pallbearers are Edward Williams, Joe Williams, David Williams, Mike Kelly, Trey Warren, and David DeVeny. Honorary pallbearer is Dr. John E. Wilkins Jr.
