Irmalee (DeForest) Durand 92, of Rockport, Texas, passed away peacefully with her family on February 15, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas, after complications from an acute illness.

Irmalee was born May 31, 1930, to Helen and Forrest Jones Sr. in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The family subsequently settled in Mercedes, Texas, where she spent most of her childhood. Prior to graduating from Mercedes High School in 1948, Irmalee won State Championship as a baton twirler. She then went on to graduate from San Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, Texas, in 1952, with a degree in education. She then traveled to Rockport, Texas to take a teaching position and started her 34 year career as a secondary level schoolteacher for Aransas County Independent School District. After retiring, Irmalee continued her involvement in education through substituting and home school teaching. She was an icon of education in the Rockport-Fulton area.

Irmalee was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Rockport, the Columbia Ladies Group, The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Rockport-Fulton Lions Club, and the Rockport-Fulton Retired Teachers Association.

Irmalee was preceded in death by parents; brother; first husband: Glenn DeForest and second husband: Don Durand.

Survivors include her sons: Carl Ray DeForest (Becky) and Bart DeForest (Patricia); 3 grandchildren: Katrina Catchings, Austin Catchings and Raven DeForest; 2 great grandchildren; 5 stepchildren with Don.

A private graveside service will be held in the Fulton Cemetery on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 10:00 AM, where she will be laid to rest with her first husband, Glenn DeForest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, (800) 322-8284 to aid other families and continue Irmalee's mission of service.
