Son of John Stahl (or Stall), in 1860, Jacob G. Stahl was a farmer living in Hogestown, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 6" tall with light hair and light eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, PA on August 12, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 17 as a private with Co. E. 200th Pennsylvania Infantry, promoted to corporal August 29, and honorably discharged with his company May 30, 1865. His last name is spelled "Stall" on the roster and in his pension index.

He married Holly Jane Martin April 9, 1866, in Brighton, Macoupin, Illinois.
They were the parents of:

Martha (b. 02/14/69, married a Crockett & a Dial)
Holly Jane (b. 02/08/71, d. 02/21/72)

In 1870, he was living with an uncle in Gettysburg, Adams Township, Darke, Ohio, but Holly is not listed. She died in 1874, but he married Mary E. (Chambers) Burden, December 31, 1873 [sic], in Macoupin Co., IL. He later lived in Saint Charles Co., Missouri, and Freeport, Kansas, where he died of stomach cancer.
